Adam Smith, the Masters of Mankind, and Meaninglessness

All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.

– Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations

Most human beings go through life in a state of loss; lost time, lost opportunities, lost wealth, lost love, and the loss of those we love.  Among the most tragic, though, is the loss of purpose.  Such loss eats up the moments of life, accumulating rot and corrosion, until one is dumped into the graveyard of oblivion.

Allah ta’ala says:  “By the Passage of Moments and Ages, Verily Humanity is in Wasted Loss, Except Those with Fidelity(to Allah) who Produce Righteous Effects, and Enjoin (communally) on Truth, and Enjoin (communally) with Patience.”

Adam Smith and many of America’s founders warned of the excesses of capitalism, and of its ability to corrupt the sociopolitical system they began developing.  At the time, Africans were held as free labor to increase the profits of the “masters of mankind”.  After the Africans were “liberated” and dumped into ghettos, the “masters” enslaved women, “liberating” them to become the cheap-labor of corporate America, working on weekdays, purchasing on weekends.  Now, the “masters” have imported the Latinos, shackling them to menial jobs, while keeping them “illegal” to deprive them of the real benefits of their hard work.  Additionally, they have exported slavery to countries like China, where 13-year-old children leave their families thousands of miles behind to live in factories, working 15-hour shifts for $1.20.

Smith also said:

We rarely hear, it has been said, of the combinations(unified conspiracies) of masters, though frequently of those of the workman. But whoever imagines, upon this account, that masters rarely combine, is as ignorant of the world as of the subject.

As the capitalist vampire squid spreads it tentacles around the globe, ever-tightening its grip on the throats of humanity, the “masters” float about on their yachts, enjoying fine champagne and hand-rolled cigars.  For a few coins of their amassed wealth, they purchase politicians and rewrite legislation, twisting and bending the entire system to their advantage.  Funnel the cash upward while laying more and more economic risk on the backs of the broken serfs.

Allah Created

The sun has a purpose, and the moon a different purpose.

Stars bewilder the mind, stretch the imagination, and guide us out of dark places.

Land has purpose, as does the sea.

The salt-water of the ocean has a purpose different from the sweet-water that rises from the ground.

Fishes and birds have purpose, as do cows, horses, and camels.

The dust floating on the air spreads vegetative life.

Don’t allow any human being, adult or child, man or woman, waste this life away and return to Allah without purpose !  Let no Muslim or non-Muslim believe their purpose is to slave by day and sleep by night.  If dust in the wind has purpose, surely every human being has a far greater purpose.

Know  that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, among yourselves, riches and children. Here is a similitude: How rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong). And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception?
